E-vehicles 2024: our highlights

The year 2023 was once again dominated by e-mobility: with a total of 47,621 newly registered electric cars, 39% more electric cars were registered than in the previous year 2022. This means that purely electric cars already accounted for around one fifth of all new car registrations. Many exciting e-models will also be launched on the market in 2024. We present our highlights in more detail in this blog post.

Audi Q6 e-tron

With the Q6 e-tron, Audi is closing the gap between the Q4 e-tron mid-range model and the Q8 e-tron luxury model. The Q6 e-tron is based on the PPE electric platform developed by Porsche, on which the Porsche Macan is based. On the one hand, this guarantees an impressive charging speed of up to 270 kW at the charging station, but also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of performance. The top-of-the-range SQ6 model delivers a whopping 517 hp and a torque of 850 Nm. This enables the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The Q6 e-tron also uses a new generation of battery, which enables a theoretical range of up to 600 kilometers. Of course, all this comes at a price: the Q6 e-tron will be available from around 70,000 Euros and is therefore not a car for the small fleet budget.

BYD Seal U

The Chinese e-car giant BYD is going from strength to strength: with the Seal U, the manufacturer is already launching its sixth e-model on the Austrian market. The compact SUV has to hold its own against top dogs such as the Tesla Model Y or the VW ID.4, but has nothing to hide. The front engine delivers a powerful 218 hp and the 87 kWh battery gives the Seal U a range of up to 500 kilometers (according to WLTP). The maximum charging power is 140 kW. This allows the battery to be charged from 30 to 80 percent in 29 minutes. This is fast enough, but compared to other models in this class, it is more in the middle of the field. The Seal U scores points above all with its high-quality interior, good workmanship and spaciousness. Prices are not yet known. However, it is expected that the Seal U will be launched on the market for around 40,000 Euros. This makes the compact SUV the perfect alternative for the price-conscious who do not want to compromise on comfort and good quality.

Citroën ë-C3

With the ë-C3, Citroën is launching an electric car on the market at a competitive price of just over 23,000 Euros, demonstrating that it is not only Chinese manufacturers who can build affordable electric cars. The small car in the style of a compact SUV offers a range of up to 320 kilometers (according to WLTP) and can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes thanks to the 100 kW fast-charging function. With an engine output of 113 hp and a top speed of 135 km/h, the ë-C3 is ideal for city driving or commuting. In terms of comfort, the little French car is in the top league: from lavishly upholstered "Advanced Comfort" seats and a head-up display - a first in a Citroën model - to infotainment with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, the electric car leaves nothing to be desired.

Cupra Tavascan

The Tavascan is the second electric car from Cupra and therefore the big brother of the sporty Born, which is very popular with Austrian fleet managers. The SUV coupé is based on Volkswagen's MEB modular system, delivers up to 340 hp and promises a range of up to 549 kilometers (according to WLTP). The design is typically sporty and dynamic for a Cupra and cuts a fine figure on the road. The interior of the Tavascan is also impressive: with a large 15-inch touchscreen (the largest display ever installed in a Cupra), a particularly easy-to-use infotainment system, an AR head-up display and hi-fi sound from Sennheiser, the e-car leaves nothing to be desired. Prices are not yet known.

Ford E-Transit Custom

With the new E-Transit Custom, Ford is launching an all-electric version of the popular Transit Custom. With a WLTP range of 323 kilometers, fast charging up to 125 kWh, an engine output of up to 218 hp, a payload of up to 1,330 kilograms and a maximum towing capacity of 2.3 tons, the new E-Transit Custom is at the top of the current market range in many respects. This makes the e-transporter ideal not only for last mile delivery, but also for larger areas of application. Like the combustion engine and PHEV variants, the E-Transit Custom can also be individually configured and is available as a panel van or crew cab and in two different exterior lengths. Delivery to customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland is planned for the fourth quarter of 2024. The E-Transit Custom is available in the L1 variant with "Trend" equipment from just EUR 49,100 (excl. VAT).

Polestar 4

With the Polestar 4 performance SUV coupé, the Volvo subsidiary Polestar is already launching its third model on the market. The technical specifications promise a lot: up to 400 kW engine power, a battery size of over 100 kW and a charging capacity of 200 kW, with which the battery can be charged from 5 to 80 percent in just 32 minutes. With a range of up to 600 kilometers (according to WLTP) for the single-motor model (560 kilometers for the top model with all-wheel drive), the Polestar 4 is ideally equipped for long distances. The design of the electric vehicle is also surprising, as it has no rear window. Instead, Polestar relies on a rear-facing HD camera and a digital interior mirror, which together are intended to provide a wider field of vision. Otherwise, the aerodynamic profile of the Polestar 4 not only looks good, but is also optimally tailored to the needs of an electric car. With an introductory price of around 60,000 Euros, the Polestar 4 will be priced between the Polestar 2 and the Polestar 3.

Renault 5

With the new edition of the Renault 5, an icon goes fully electric. There are many indications that the new R5 could once again achieve cult status. Although Renault will not present the production model to the public until the Geneva Motor Show in February, some key data is already known. With a target entry-level price of 25,000 Euros, the R5 will be on a par with hybrid models in the B segment and significantly cheaper than the all-electric Zoe. The compact design with a length of just 3.92 meters makes the R5 ideal for the city. Despite its small size, there is no need to compromise on range. The 52 kWh battery is said to enable a WLTP range of up to 400 kilometers. The R5 owes this impressive range not only to its unique design, which is clearly reminiscent of the predecessor model, but also to a simplified battery architecture. This will make the battery around 15 kilograms lighter than that of the Zoe. The R5 will also be the first production vehicle from Renault to enable bidirectional charging.

VW ID.7 Tourer

If it previously seemed as if the classic estate car no longer had a place in the age of e-mobility, VW is trying to convince us otherwise with the ID.7 Tourer (formerly Variant). And the Wolfsburg-based company has come up with quite a few ideas: The ID.7 Tourer should not only shine with an 86 kW battery and a targeted range of up to 700 kilometers in the top version, the charging times should also be particularly short thanks to 200 kW DC charging power. The design of the electric estate will be based on the ID.7 saloon, which is already available, and will feature sophisticated aerodynamics, which should contribute significantly to the long range. Volkswagen will present the final design in the coming months. Volkswagen has paid particular attention to comfort in the ID.7 Tourer, making it the ideal companion on long journeys. Thanks to its short overhangs and long wheelbase, the electric estate also offers a generous amount of space and a trunk capacity of up to 1,714 liters. Prices have not yet been set.
